Shoebox Project for Schools:

Teachers

Together, we can create more connected, empathetic and compassionate communities

Organize a Shoebox Gift Drive with my Class/School

Planning a Shoebox Gift drive is a simple, fun and creative way to give back to local women impacted by homelessness. Regardless of the age of your students, your budget, or timeline, we can help you make a real impact in your community.

Register below to get involved. We will contact you with further information on how to get started.

You can also download instructions on how to put together a Shoebox and run a successful gift drive at your school.

Lesson Plans & Classroom Resources

We have created the below lesson plans and educational resources for grades K-8, to be used either in conjunction with a Shoebox Project gift drive, or on their own.

It is our hope that this program will help your students:

  • Understand concepts of poverty & homelessness, and why it is a problem in Canada

  • Challenge stigmas and misconceptions related to homelessness

  • Learn about challenges specific to women and those with intersecting identities

  • Develop greater empathy and understanding for people impacted by homelessness

  • Explore support services for marginalized communities and how they can get involved

Lessons & Activities

Each lesson is split into different sections with accompanying activities to reinforce learning. Select the appropriate one for your grade and download them below.

Bookmark this page! New resources are being added each month and we'll be incorporating a range of subjects, including math, media literacy, and art. Resources in French will also be added!
