It takes a village of volunteers at the community level to support our Local Chapters. Each Local Chapter is run by our volunteer Local Coordinators. They work with an amazing network of volunteers and are often looking for additional support. There are a variety of roles for individuals to get involved to help them reach their goals.
A Local Chapter is a branch of The Shoebox Project led entirely by volunteers.
On behalf of, and supported by, a trusted national registered charity, Local Chapters collect gifts and essentials from members of the community and distribute them through shelters and agencies to local women experiencing or at-risk-of homelessness.
Each Local Chapter is unique in their community outreach, focus, shelter/agency needs and therefore their volunteer needs.
Some Chapters are in small locations and manage with only a few volunteers while other Chapters require a large support team to help them manage their Chapter goals.
Other Chapters support shelters on numerous occasions through the entire year and are looking for more continuous volunteer involvement.
Our busiest season for Shoebox giving is our annual holiday gift drive during the months of October - December and many Chapters only require support during this time of the year to help bring it all together.
You are a great communicator; group facilitation and presentations are your passion! You will be assisting your Local Chapter in reaching out to your community to raise awareness and encourage involvement. Outreach may include local shelters/shelter agencies, businesses & corporations, schools, colleges & universities and service clubs. You may also help to facilitate Shoebox Drives with these groups.
Small communities may have one volunteer doing all of their outreach (Community Outreach Coordinator), while larger communities may have a few volunteers focusing on specific groups as shown in the separate roles below.
You are organized and love timelines! Assist your local chapter with general administrative duties which may include monitoring emails and distributing communications, maintaining chapter tracking sheets in some cases helping manage the chapter's financial transactions or assisting with volunteer recruitment and scheduling.
You like the 'Ask'! Assist your local chapter in creating, planning, organizing and implementing fundraising initiatives. This may include coordinating fundraising campaigns and events, or playing more of a support role for various fundraising event logistics and activities in your community.
Help us build community awareness and support for The Shoebox Project mission! You will be assisting in communicating our mission, community initiatives, fundraising events, public activities, etc. to various community outlets such as local event calendars, local news/media outlets, public officials, and local personalities.
You like to spread the word! Develop, implement and manage your local chapter’s social media plan across various platforms.
You like everything to be neat and pretty! Be the organizer or assist in ensuring that each Shoebox donated is a gift you would like to receive yourself. This involves making sure that each Shoebox is inspected, sealed and ready for delivery to a woman in need. Most importantly we encourage that each of our Shoebox gifts includes a handwritten note of support for the recipient.
Limited time or just love to spread the love? This is the opportunity for you! We always want to ensure our gifts have a handwritten note of support for our recipients. This is one of the most important ways to show we care and value the women in our community. Knowing someone cares can have a huge impact on wellbeing. Let’s show her, she matters and make her really feel it.
You like to be on the move and in the action! Assist with pick up and delivery of items throughout your chapter’s Shoebox drive as needed. This may include distributing flyers, gathering fundraising items, picking up Shoeboxes from public drop-off locations, etc. Most importantly this will involve what we've all been working towards, delivery of our Shoebox gifts to our shelters!
